Lady's Choice: Choice of the Nation

Choice of the Nation
 is a one-of-a-kind culinary competition that challenges chefs and cooks to whip up unique mayo-based dips. James Benedict CarreonManaging Director of UFS Philippines explained that dips may be simple and not too costly to make but its versatility allows chefs to concoct unique recipes that showcase their signature dish.

Lady’s Choice Real Mayonnaise with its familiar rich and creamy taste has captured Filipinos’ palate for generations. Over the last three months, 87 entries were submitted. The top ten dish creations by the most talented culinarians in the country are as follows:

Honey Ai Carolina Reaper Mayo by Chef Sonny Balaga Jr.

Thai Chili Honey Dressing by Chef Edward Taponan

Basi Dip by Chef Natasha Besteben

Tom Yum Mayo by Chef Ryan Singson

Soccoro’s All Time Favorite by Chef Sharmaine Santos

Hawaiian Jerk Dip by Chef Ross Benito

Wings Gone Wild’s Garlic Ranch Dip by Chef Jerina Castillo

Alamang Con Mayo by Chef Villa Amor Loresca

The Fish Mongers Remoulade by Chef Jayrald Yambao

Spicy Cream Cheese Mayo with Roasted Capsicum by Chef Angelo Guison

The judges include the country’s biggest names in the local culinary scene:
  • Chef Fernando Aracama
  • Chef Kalel Chan
  • Chef Brando Santos
  • Chef Sau del Rosario
  • Chef Rob Pengson

Criteria for judging the recipes include taste, creativity and innovation, food presentation, audience voting and proper use of Lady’s Choice infused in each dip creation. The first-ever ”Choice of the Nation” competition aims to push the skills of Filipino chefs to pursue food innovation and delight their customers with exquisite dishes. The Choice of the Nation Grand Cook Off is supported by Masflex Cookware and Kitchenware, KitchenPro and Unox.

Guests get to enjoy food from Unilever chefs
Cash prize of Php 100,000 plus special gift pack from UFS and Lady’s Choice for the grand winner with Php 80,000 for first runner-up and Php 50,000 for the second runner-up plus special gift packs from UFS were awarded to the chosen chefs.

We got a taste of the contestants' dips and food. I personally liked Alamang Con Mayo and Hawaiian Jerk Dip. The first was tasty and sinful I could imagine it with breakfast dishes and fried dishes. The latter one was spicy with the right amount of course. I could have it with wings or dishes that needs for kick.

It was a fun afternoon! You can see the drive and passion of each chefs as they make their recipes into reality.
