56 Wine Bar, Part of the Community

56 Wine Bar, Part of the Community

56 Wine Bar is situated in Pwesto Community Mall near Don Antonio, Quezon City. It’s one of the numerous establishments found in this compound. The normal foot traffic is from students, employees and residences in area who want to grab something to eat before heading home. They are open from 11:00AM to 1:00PM from Monday to Saturday and on Sunday 11:00m to 11:00PM.

Their menu

2nd floor

Their cuisine are mostly tapas and Spanish inspired dishes that are perfect pairing from their vast wine options. If you are wondering where they got name they got it from the compound’s street address which 56 Holy Spirit Drive. Don’t worry about parking by the way since the semi-mall (since there’s other establishments besides restaurants) have allotted at least 20 parking space for customers.

Once you entered the restaurant the first thing I noticed despite the limited space they were able to maximize it by being able to accommodate at least 20 to 30 people max. They even had a 2nd floor that can fit 10 individuals. Don't fret since Pwesto's 2nd floor also homes their mini food park, you can still sit in this area and order from 56 Wine Bar. Their kitchen is located in there too.

The lighting was dimming so we had a hard time taking photos. One my foodie friends brought a portable light and I did my best documenting our dinner.

Here are the dishes we got try during our visit were the following:

* For reference Para Uno is good for 1-2 then Para Dos is good for 3-4.
The first thing I noticed was how generous they were with the ingredients. Their Paella Espanola had a lot of seafood which I truly enjoyed. It's already a meal on its own. You'll get shrimp, squid and mussels then the sauce and sausage gave the rice a richer flavor, which made it stood out for me.

For the Paella Negra I was expecting a more salty flavor to it.

PAELLA ESPANOLA (Para Uno Php 268 | Para Dos Php 508)
[ Rice dish with seafood and sausage ]

PAELLA NEGRA (Para Uno Php 298 | Para Dos Php 568)
[ Rice dish with squid ink ]

[ Shrimp sautéed in olive oil and garlic ]

It comes with buttered bread. Great meal starter since the sauce wasn't as intense. So you'll have room for more dishes.

AGLIO OLIO (Php 218)
[ Pasta cooked with garlic, spice and olive oil ]
You can choose between shrimp or chorizo.

[ Braised ox tongue with onions, tomatoes and garlic ]

They've used ox tongue instead of beef brisket which was interesting. I liked how the sauce intense flavors of spices penetrated the meat. If you are planning to it with rice make sure to order plain rice.

SALPICAO (Php 318)
[ Fillet of beef cubes with garlic and olive oil ]

It was unanimous that salpicao was one of our favorites. The beef was tender and juicy with it's light and sweet sauce.

[ Braised ox tongue with white cream sauce ]

Similar to my lola's home cooked lengua. I liked how creamy the sauce with the right hint of seasoning. Sauce wasn't as overpowering but it enhanced the taste of the ox tongue. Since the sauce was mild it was also great with their paella as it balances the flavors in your mouth.

OVERALL: I was stuck in traffic for 20 minutes just to make a U turn going to Don Antonio. If you are unaware there is an ongoing MRT7 construction along Commonwealth. I think the residents and visitors who goes through this location would appreciate a wine place that offers good food at affordable rates. Normal tapas servings size are smaller and the prices are expensive. They were able to make their prices competitive with relatively generous portion.  I remembered going to a restaurant with a Php 330 salpicao and their serving was just half of 56 wine bar plus the taste wasn't as impressive compare to them.
