The Fat Seed Experience

It was Father's Day so we went out and celebrated with my family. Luckily my older sister was in the Philippines for vacation at that time. So it was heartwarming to have the whole family complete on that special day. (Everyday is Father's or Mother's day for me).



What you need to look for.

We were looking for a place to eat at UP Town Center and then I remembered that a good friend of mine was raving about this restaurant. It is pretty new so we had to look for it. It is found in the new wing beside Friday's which is the same floor of CBTL. The Fat Seed looked reminiscent of a cafe I visited in Cebu named Birdseed in Axis Entertainment Avenue. It also had this industrial interior with artsy designs like their mural.


We ordered a couple of appetizers and those were:

Spinach and Shroom (Php 195)
[ Parmesan cheese, butter creamed spinach, sautéed mushrooms, garlic and truffle oil along with baguette slices ]
Who doesn't want something buttery and cheesy. The flavors didn't clash but rather married well with each other. 

Mushroom Fritters (Php 175)
[ Deep fried oyster mushroom with homemade ketchup ]
There's a big crazy for fried mushrooms. I've been to several restaurants that serves their own version of it. We all enjoyed it cause it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.


Street Fries (Php 180)
[ Potato wedges with cherry tomatoes, bacon, nacho cheese, sour cream, jalapeño and cilantro ]






Presented in a three layer steel lunch box a unique way food presentation. Each layer had the different parts of the dish. 


Instead of beef brisket they used wagyu cubes cooked in pares sauce. It was tender and the sauce was sweet and salty. Couldn't help but pour it all over the garlic rice. 

It also came with soup. It doesn't taste like socks don't worry 🤣  Malalaman natin ang mahilig sa pares. Pag na-gets ang joke na ito.

[ Wagyu beef cubes served with beef broth, fried rice and shao xing rice wine ]
Hotate Soy Cream Pasta (Php 385)
[ Japanese soy cream, ebiko, scallops, nori shreds and bonito flakes ]
Our favorite dish and a surprise too. It looked so simple and unassuming a delicious medley of tastes. Japanese inspired flavors made extra with scallops.

The Fat Seed Burger (Php 395)
They used black brioche bun which was soft and was just ideal for the patty. I really annoying when you bite into a burger and the bun was just stale or dry. A burger wouldn't be complete without it. The patty was juicy but wish it was a little thicker to suffice the price. 

Buttermilk Chicken with Ube Waffles and Salted Egg sauce (Php 325)
It also comes with bacon infused maple syrup and pickled red onion. Boneless fried chicken yes please! I was curious with their salted egg sauce it was light flavored though, same with their Ube waffle but I think it they added more Ube and Salted Egg flavor to those pieces. This dish will be perfect!


I would love to go back and try their other dishes. I couldn't stop thinking of their Hotate Soy Cream Pasta and it was so good! Japanese blend of creamy goodness. Yummy! Also try their Mushroom Fritters.
